Specimen Identification for Reporting and Archiving |
Deciding to utilize bar codes in your lab can be a daunting
task. Which bar code to pick? Will all my equipment work well with just one bar code? How
do I print the bar codes? What label size do I need? Will the labels hold up in the
chemistry? Shall I label the paraffin blocks before imbedding the specimen in paraffin?
Will the labels last through extensive archiving?
These questions need answers. We can help you with
our lab experience and label expertise.
Once in place, each container, block and slide will be
clearly marked with the data that you need. Typically the labels include a bar code and
human readable text including case study as well as sample numbers. These labels are
referenced and scanned at different points in the lab depending on how closely you need to
track each case.

Easy Item Location
Slides and ID cards (or a menu) can be scanned as they are distributed for viewing. At any
point you can reference your system and locate an item in the lab, whether it is in the
tissue area, microtoming, staining or being viewed. The slides can be scanned as they are
reviewed. Notes can be recorded into your system right away.
Archiving samples has never been easier. Bar codes on the
slides can be scanned as they enter the storage area. When the slides are removed from the
area, the bar codes are scanned again. Scanning an ID card or menu with the technologist's
name also helps locate the slides after they have left the archive area.
The data generated by the system helps you to better
understand the way your lab works.
