We can provide labels and label printing systems for
all types of book, periodical, and document tracking. We provide ISBN bar code
labels as well as consecutively numbered paper, polyester and other plastic labels.
We sell barcode labels for uses where durable
moisture and scratch resistant bar code labeling is needed. Electronic
Imaging Materials also provides scanners
to assist with document retrieval.
Libraries
We have the labels for YOUR library.
Most libraries need labels that are already printed with Codabar or Code 39. We offer
printed labels to meet your needs. Singles, doubles or triplicate....we can do it. Custom
bar codes, check digits or fonts are easily done. Cost sensitive users select labels
without laminate and place them under the clear jacket. Maximum durability for labels
adhered to outside of jacket requires laminated labels. Selections of durable poly label
materials and tenacious adhesive are provided. What ever it is that you need, we will
help.
For libraries which print their own
labels we provide blank labels for laser printers, or labels and ribbons for thermal
transfer printers.
Book Publishing and the ISBN
The ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
is a unique, machine-readable number that clearly identifies books. In use for
35 years, this numbering system has helped standardize publications worldwide.
The barcodes found on the back of
books are called Bookland EAN bar code symbols. The EAN barcode is
created from the ISBN for the book. Although the EAN barcode is much like that
used by general retailers, the numbering system used to generate the bar code is
different. If you are bar coding a monthly publication, you use an
International Standard Serial Number (ISSN).
As of January 2007, the ISBN has
moved from a 10 digit to a 13 digit code system and this change will affect the
entire book industry, including publishers, sellers, libraries, and buyers. *
Then encoded in an EAN-13 bar code, the ISBN is preceded by the digits 978 and
the ISBN check-digit is not encoded but an EAN-13 check digit is added to the
end of the bar code.
Example: 10 digits 1234567890 ISBN-10 now
becomes 978-1-234567-89-7 ISBN-13 / EAN
