Troubleshooting EIMINC TASK
Computer reports a
general protection fault or exception error
- TASK uses a number of advanced "COM" functions
that require the latest updates to Windows 95, 98, NT, or 2000. For Windows
98 or 2000, use Windows update to get all critical and recommended updates.
For Windows 95, check the following page for recommended updates: http://www.walbeehm.com/win95upd.html
- TASK requires ADO components from Microsoft. To download the latest
version, please visit: http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_260rtm.htm
- DCOM for Windows 95, required by ADO. You may already have
this installed, as it is a requirement to get ADO (above) to work right. The
latest version of DCOM95 is available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom95/download.asp
While it is not absolutely necessary to install
Internet Explorer to use TASK, installing the latest, full version of Internet
Explorer and then using the Windows Update site automatically performs most, if
not all, of the updates above.
TASK requires a dedicated printer port, with the
Generic Text Only printer driver as the only printer driver installed for that
port. Before using TASK, switch your other printer drivers to other ports.
Make sure you have free physical memory and hard disk
space.
Disable (and possibly uninstall) any non-essential
utilities to free up memory and disk space, and remove possible conflicts.
Printer does not respond when I print or issue a test print-
- Check Printer power, press feed to forward a label.
- Check that Cables connected well on both ends.
- A format must be loaded
Counter is not counting as I print labels.
- Check the settings of the counter variable in question. It might be set for a maximum
that is above the current value or even above the minimum value.
- The variable counter might not be set to "move on" the correct number of
labels.
The label prints, but the print is not centered properly on the labels
- Go to the File | Printer Setup. Click the "Test" button to print a test
pattern label. The box in the upper left hand corner should measure .25" x .25"
and be placed on the very left and top edges of the label. Adjust as needed and click
"Test" to confirm changes. Clicking "OK" with save the changes.
The label prints, but the print is being cut off by the edge of the label or is broken
up in smaller pieces and located in the wrong part of the label.
- The field(s) in questions contain too much data for that region on the label.
- The solution might be to decrease the data size, locate the data in an area of the label
with more space, use a different format on the same label, or use a different format on a
larger label size.
- If the field is a bar code, please see this special
note on bar codes.
The label prints, but the bar code does not scan.
- The bar code symbology selected is not compatible with the scanning device.
- The white space (quiet zone) to the left or right of the bar code is too small. It
should be at least 10 times the size of the narrowest bar in the code. Decrease data size
or move to another format with more area. Please see this special note on bar codes.
- Print the test pattern. Do you see white lines running top to bottom of the label. The
printhead might be dirty or the printhead might need repair.
Special Note on Bar
Codes - Many of the format templates use bar codes. Some bar code symbologies
change size based on the type (alpha or numeric) or the exact number of characters
requested (odd or even). Is some cases, preceding your numbering sequence with a zero (0)
will actually make your bar code fit better on the label. You should size your bar code to
leave roughly 10 times (10x) the width of the narrowest bar as white zone on the left and
right of the code. We encourage you to experiment to see what works best for you. Call us
with any questions.
